I put my students at the centre of their LAMDA journey.
According to YouGov, over 50% of adults list public speaking as a top fear and this can have a serious impact on future education and employment prospects.
I am therefore aware that I have a great responsibility when developing confidence and self-belief in my students.
My Background
My discovery of acting as a young person had a profound effect on my confidence and self-belief. I love sharing the techniques which I use in my work as a professional actor every day. That could be a voice warm up I use before recording on a voiceover job, or exercises to master my mindset before an audition.
I’ve overseen 1000s of hours of learning to students all over the world with all students passing their exams and 85% doing so with a distinction. Running so many lessons to such a high standard has also given me a unique LAMDA teaching experience.
A Student-Led Approach
I insist that my students always perform material which they are passionate about performing and I give my students the choice of the LAMDA exam they wish to work towards.
Giving my students ownership of their LAMDA journey is an important step as they work towards a mastery of their self-expression. Some parents may have experienced their child not being motivated or wanting to give up their LAMDA studies. By giving my students full responsibility, my students are more likely to engage with their LAMDA journey and stay the course.
One-to-one Learning
I keep my student numbers low so that I can deliver fun, outstanding LAMDA learning and meticulously tailor each and every lesson to the needs of my individual students. Working with each of my students one-to-one is the best environment in which to see their confidence grow, rather than a group lesson where students will be inclined to compare themselves to others.
I’m a trusted guide and mentor to my students, committed to creating a warm and nurturing lesson environment where they can fulfil their potential.
My Approach to Booking Exams
LAMDA’s exams are not academic assessments and the skills honed in a LAMDA exam are best acquired in an environment free from pressure. Many other LAMDA learning providers have a set yearly examination timetable where students are expected to work towards a certain date. Whilst working to a deadline might work well for some students, for most, they end up taking the exam underprepared. This can have a devastating effect on students’ confidence and puts them at risk of adding to the 50% of adults listing public speaking as a top fear.
Therefore, I only organise exams for my students when I am certain that my students will present their very best work and be able to get the best result possible. This means that my students’ progress is led by their individual needs rather than a fixed external timetable.
It’s a privilege to be able to share the magic of the craft of performance and public speaking with my students and I aim to provide them with so much more than a qualification. I passionately believe that the confidence and self-belief which LAMDA lessons instil in my students, are the best investment that can be made in their lives.
