Some parents who get in touch with us think that online LAMDA learning will just be passive screen time. Not in our LAMDA lessons! Our lessons are vibrant, fully interactive and our students will spend the majority of their lesson on their feet.
As professional actors, all of our tutors are masterful camera users. They know exactly how to communicate via a lens in order to create change in an audience, or this case, our students.
Organisation, Efficiency & Speed
When The London LAMDA Tutor began, I used to fly all over London delivering lessons at students’ homes. One thing I noticed when we switched to delivering online lessons, was that the focus and the organisation of my students improved immediately.
At home lessons, I’d turn up at my student’s house and it would take five minutes to find a room. I’d then discover that my students wouldn’t have their pieces to hand and they’d go off in search of their LAMDA folder. When we finally got down to work, pets and siblings might wander in and my student would lose their focus.
In online lessons, I found that the overwhelming majority of my students were ready to go at the start of the lesson time. They’d prepared for the lesson in advance and had their pieces to hand.
This level of efficiency had a huge impact on the flow of each lesson. Whereas it might take two or three lessons to get my student to reach their desired learning goals, they’d now accomplish these in half the time.
Focussed Learning
When teaching online, the only thing our students see is us on a bright screen. All of our tutors teach from their home ‘acting studios’ and use a blank background (just as they would when filming themselves for online auditions). As such, our tutors ‘pop’ on the screen and our students are compelled to keep eye contact with us. The energy of our tutors demands our student’s full attention and our students’ focus is held throughout the lesson.
Outstanding Results
The proof that online LAMDA learning produces results came when we ran our exam days last October and January. In October, over 70% of our students passed their LAMDA exam with Distinction. In January, that figure rose to 100%.
The pandemic has changed many things including the way we work. Online and hybrid working is here to stay and so we all have to be able to communicate effectively even via a camera lens.
Our students learn these important lifelong skills from masters of their craft, and this gives our students the edge in an increasingly competitive world.
