All of my lessons are tailored to the individual, so I teach one student at a time. Depending on my availability, I can of course arrange lessons directly after one if you have multiple children.
My lessons are 50-60 minutes long which gives time to include a physical and vocal warm up, games to help your child think on their feet and exercises to improve articulation, expression and spontaneity. Over the years, I’ve found that this is vital in teaching LAMDA and in developing the lifelong skills, vocal expression and confidence which your child will take into their adult life.
Lessons run 2pm-9pm (UK time) on Mondays-Thursdays except on UK public holidays and during August.
I am especially skilled at holding young children’s attention! My lessons are completely interactive and the Solo Introductory exams are the perfect introduction to LAMDA for younger learners. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s focus, let me know and we’ll discuss how I can best meet your child’s learning needs.
My lessons can absolutely help you build a powerful presence and self-ease in your public speaking and the ability to develop a rapport with anyone. Find out more here: Lessons for Adults.
These are all different LAMDA exams or ‘courses’. There are elements of each course which cross over with others. For instance, you’d study the techniques for vocal production and projection at the higher grades of both Speaking Verse and Prose and Speaking in Public. However, the exam requirements are different for each. In Speaking Verse and Prose, students present a poem and a piece of prose. For Speaking in Public, learners write and present their own speeches.

Alongside my work as a LAMDA tutor, I am a professional actor and so highly experienced in self-taping for online auditions. As such, I am an expert in working within this medium and I will instruct your child in the framing and set up at the beginning of each lesson. My former students who moved from home to online lessons reported higher levels of focus and have made faster progress.
Focused, individual and interactive learning delivered via a bright screen demands our students’ full attention and pulls their focus from things which would ordinarily distract them at home. The same care, attention and planning which I would put into a face-to-face lesson is put into my online lessons, so my students receive the same value as if I were in the room.
LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) have offered exams to improve communication and performance skills since the 1890s.
Students can take exams as varied as Speaking in Public, Devising and even Miming. However, the most popular exams are Acting, Speaking in Public and Speaking Verse and Prose.
Each exam aims to provide students with the opportunity to find their voice, build unshakeable confidence within them and the belief that they can present themselves in any situation now and in their future life.
Exam grades start at Entry Level and (like music grades) progress up to Grade 8. LAMDA also offer solo Introductory examinations which are usually taken by younger learners or those who are yet to take a LAMDA exam.
It’s not mandatory for students to take all of the exams, but I’d strongly advise against any of my students skipping grades on their journey as they will miss out on key content which will inform their understanding of the next grade. The LAMDA grades are a carefully constructed journey so that the learner builds on their confidence and self belief as they progress.
Each exam has different requirements. For instance, in an Acting exam, you’d be preparing speeches and playing characters. In Speaking Verse and Prose, you’d be preparing poems and a piece of prose text. For Speaking in Public, you would write and present your own speeches. Each exam also has a ‘Knowledge’ requirement which becomes more detailed as you progress through the grades.
Everything I do is tailored to the individual needs of my students. I pride my service on providing a learning experience that is fun rather than pressurised. Studies have shown that young people learn best when it is enjoyable which is why I have so many long-term clients and a 100% exam pass rate.
In my experience, students get so much more when you remove the pressure of an exam on a particular date and develop those all-important life long skills such as confidence and self belief.
Therefore, I wouldn’t ever be able to put a deadline on my students’ studies and I only enter them for an exam once I know they will present their very best work.
Following your child’s initial lesson, I will relay recommendations for your child’s LAMDA studies and what they will be working towards. Please make sure that your child has a file in which they can keep all of their LAMDA material together and note down their homework (if applicable) each week. I encourage all of my students to take responsibility for keeping their LAMDA pieces and notes in one folder and for them to bring this folder to each and every lesson. Please ask your child what they noted down in their notebook or folder after their lesson each week. This will provide you with an immediate update on what they covered in the lesson and what I would like them to work on before the next lesson.
Just ask and I’ll be happy to update you.
You are more than welcome to be in the room for your child’s lessons, however, if you want your child to get the full value from their lesson I’d advise that you listen in from outside the room. The lifelong skills developed in a LAMDA lesson need to be nurtured in a one-to-one environment and when parents sit in on lessons they inevitably pull their child’s focus and affect the effectiveness of their learning.
That said, with some students who might have some special learning needs, it can sometime be useful for you to be on hand to assist. If that’s the case, I’d recommend that you place yourself away from the camera or from your child’s eyeline so that you don’t pull focus during the lesson.
I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate (the highest level of background check required for teaching children in the UK) and I adhere to LAMDA’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
All lessons are paid for via card with using the secure third-party payment platform, Stripe. If you’ve booked a single lesson, payment for the lesson will be arranged on my next working day (please see my office hours) and you will receive a receipt by email. If you’ve booked a block of lessons, payment is arranged on my next working day before the first lesson of the block.
All lesson bookings and payment notifications are always confirmed in advance and in writing.
Absolutely, just let me know. I have previously taught students with a wide range of different needs and there are no barriers to entry in order to grow your confidence and self belief through LAMDA. When the time comes for your child to take a LAMDA exam, we can also apply for ‘reasonable adjustments’ which helps to reduce the effect of a disability or difficulty that places the learner at a substantial disadvantage in the assessment situation.
