A Journey Begins
“Our child has been working with Liane for almost a year, and in that time, we’ve seen incredible growth in their confidence. Liane really understands how to help them reach their potential and has worked with them to find material they are interested in and can connect with. Our child loves their lessons, and we are provided with regular, detailed feedback so we know what they are working on. The pace of the lessons is perfect for them to remain comfortable while also moving forward and improving their skills.”
Charlie’s LAMDA journey began during a time of change — they had just moved schools, and their family hoped LAMDA lessons would offer a space where their confidence could grow.
As a LAMDA coach, I believe in creating a nurturing environment where students can develop confidence, resilience, creativity, and self-expression. Charlie’s story is a wonderful example of how drama coaching can nurture both acting talent and self-belief.
Building Trust and Safety
From our very first lesson, it was clear that Charlie had a quiet determination. My top priority was to create a space where they felt supported, safe, and in control.
We introduced a simple “codeword” system — if anything ever felt overwhelming, Charlie could say the codeword, and we would pause and reset. This gave Charlie space to explore new skills at their own pace, without pressure.
In the early sessions, we focused on body awareness, vocal expression, and sharing emotions in performance — always in a way that felt fun, gentle, and encouraging.
A Standout Moment: From Quiet Strength to Powerful Performer
One of the most memorable moments came as Charlie prepared for their acting exam. Performing their set piece at home, Charlie moved their mum to tears — a beautiful sign of how far they’d come in connecting with an audience.
Developing Body, Voice, and Presence
Like many young performers, Charlie initially spoke from the upper chest, which limited their vocal strength and range. We worked on helping them use their whole body to support their voice, opening up new possibilities for expression.

“Today we explored connecting breath to voice. Once Charlie allowed their body to support the delivery, their voice became warmer and more resonant. You could see the excitement when they realised they could fill the space with sound — a real turning point in their presence.”

This work gave Charlie not just a stronger voice but also greater confidence in how they carried themselves — both on stage and in everyday life.
Building Ease and Confidence on Stage
Charlie sometimes experienced the usual nerves before performing. Instead of trying to push those feelings away, we worked on turning them into positive performance energy.
“We focused today on ways to settle into the present moment before performing. Charlie practiced simple focus and attention techniques, and by the end of the session, they were channeling their excitement into their performance.”

Crafting Performance and Embracing Playfulness
As Charlie gained experience, they became more willing to experiment, play, and take creative risks — all essential for growth as an actor. They learned to stay present and responsive, creating performances that felt authentic and alive.
“Charlie started to take creative risks in rehearsal today. Instead of aiming for a ‘perfect’ version, they stayed open to the moment. The result was a performance alive with spontaneity!”

Looking Ahead
Charlie’s journey is a powerful reminder of how drama lessons help young people discover their voice, build confidence, and develop life-long skills.
It has been a joy to watch them grow not just as a performer but as a person — becoming more resilient, expressive, and self-assured.
As Charlie prepares for their upcoming LAMDA exams, I’m excited to see all they will continue to achieve. Their story beautifully shows that acting is about so much more than memorising lines — it’s about finding the courage to express yourself authentically.
